Moremi Game Reserve

The Moremi Game Reserve is situated in the eastern part of the Okavango Delta, on the south-western border of the Chobe National Park, and covers almost one-third of the Delta.  With such a wide variety of vegetation comes a diverse spectrum of wildlife.  Huge herds of impala and tsessebe are found in the area, while in the dry season large herds of buffalo, wildebeest, elephant and zebra flock into the reserve from the Kalahari in search of food and water.  The rare sitatunga and lechwe antelope live on the banks of the waterways.  Lions, cheetahs and packs of wild dogs hunt in the open grassland. The reserve is home to over 400 species of birds, including the African Fish Eagle, the crested crane and the sacred ibis. Its wealth of bird and animal life makes Moremi a prime game-viewing area.

Day 2/3

Khwai Concession Area

Enjoy 2 full days in the Khwai Concession Area, one of Africa’s last remaining unspoiled safari destinations, with a variety of activities to choose from.  Teeming with animals, including lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dogs, zebra and red lechwe, game viewing is excellent all year-round.

Khwai Concession Area / Okavango Delta (Intercamp Flight: 20-minutes)

Overnight at Belmond Eagle Island Lodge (deluxe tented room) with lunch, dinner, breakfast and a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks included.

Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is formed by the inflow of the Okavango River (also known as the Kavango River in Namibia) into the arid sands of the Kalahari Desert, and is a unique ecosystem of papyrus-lined waterways, knee-deep floodplains, water lily lagoons, shady forest glades and fertile savannah grasslands.  All this lushness lies in the middle of the Kalahari Desert Basin, the largest continuous stretch of sand in the world.  Seen from space as an emerald swirl surrounded by a parched landscape, the Okavango Delta is an incredible source of life in a country that is 80% arid.  The Okavango region contains the Moremi Game Reserve surrounded by some strictly controlled, privately managed wildlife concessions.  The game viewing in all of these areas is no less than outstanding and activities can either be undertaken on foot, in a game-viewing vehicle, on a mokoro (dug-out canoe) or a motorized boat.  Such varied opportunities in a beautiful and diverse range of habitats make the Okavango one of the best all-encompassing safari destination in the world.

Day 5

Okavango Delta (Optional Activities: Horse riding & Scene Helicopter Flights)

Enjoy a full day in the Okavango Delta, a unique wetland system and one of the largest inland deltas in the world. An Okavango Delta safari offers a diversity of wildlife including predators, antelope, birds and fishes. From the air, the rich mosaic of land and water looks like a perfectly constructed puzzle. While exploring the spectacular waterways, you will discover why so many safari enthusiasts keep on returning to the Okavango Delta. (Optional activities will be for your account and is not included in your package).

Overnight at Belmond Eagle Island Lodge (deluxe tented room) with lunch, dinner, breakfast and a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks included.

  • Motorized Boating:  The chance to explore open waters is a unique feature of an Okavango Delta safari. Cover more ground and delve deeper into the landscape, with a chance to spot an even greater variety of wildlife. Available during the wet season, usually May to October.
  • Barge Cruise: Embark on a sunset barge cruise for hypnotic views as you sip a sundowner. Available during the wet season, usually May to October.
  • Walking Safari: Let the experienced guides take you on a trek to experience the true spirit of Botswana.

  • Game Drive: If water levels in the Delta are too low for boating safaris, game drives will be offered.

Please note that some of the following activities are only available when the Delta is in full flood.

Optional activity at Eagle Island Lodge : Scenic Helicopter Flight (35 minutes)  US$315 per person – Additional cost not included in package

  • Enjoy scenic helicopter flights over the permanent delta, exposing areas unreachable by vehicle or boat and showcasing the sheer enormity of the Okavango Delta.  There is the option of the doors being removed for unlimited photographic opportunities.  An early morning or late afternoon flight is recommended as this time usually provides the best light for photography.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Best time to visit botswana

The rainy season occurs in summer between October and April.  Dry and cool weather, with cold and often frosty nights, takes place between May and September when the average daytime temperature is 25ºC.  The average daytime temperature during March is 30ºC.  It is true to say that there are places in Botswana for every season and every interest, making Botswana the ideal safari destination at any time of the year.  The dry season draws the wildlife to congregate along the life-giving waterways, and the rainy season attracts the herds to the lush new grass on the floodplains.

PASSPORT & VISAS

Please note that anyone travelling abroad is obliged to have a valid passport with a minimum of six months validity from the date of return with at least 3 blank pages.
