WEST COAST

The West Coast is one of a region of the Western Cape province bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the west and the Swartland region on the east. The region stretches for over 400 km from north to south and is well known for its scenic beauty and fertile fishing grounds.

The spectacular Atlantic coastline offers excellent water sport opportunities at Blaauwberg and Langebaan, and tranquil seaside towns like Paternoster, Saldanha Bay, and Yzerfontein, all famous for their Mediterranean atmosphere and fresh seafood.

The West Coast district has 5 local municipalities:

BERGRIVER

The Berg River region is a haven for bird-watchers, fishermen and sailing enthusiasts. The Berg River Estuary, where the Berg River flows into the Atlantic Ocean, is also the finish-line of the annual Berg River Canoe Marathon.

CEDERBERG

The Cederberg region is a world-famous ecotourism destination rich in natural heritage, fruit-filled valleys and towering mountains. It is a nature-lover's paradise with national parks and camping sites, rock-climbing adventures and hiking trails. It is also the only place in the world where rooibos tea can be grown.only place in the world where this healthy beverage is grown.

MATZIKAMA

The Namaqua West Coast region borders the Atlantic Ocean to the west and includes Sandveld, Knersvlakte and the Matzikama Mountain range. Every spring (September) the Namaqualand landscape is over-run by gorgeous wildflowers. 

SALDANHA

SWARTLAND

The Swartland region, also known as the gateway to the West Coast, is best known for its yellow wheat fields and green vineyards. It is home to the charming town of Darling.

CAPE TOWN

The Western Cape, South Africa’s southernmost province, is renowned for its breathtaking scenery – from rolling mountains to winelands to beautiful beaches, it is nothing but spectacular. Cape Town, its capital city, is also South Africa’s  oldest city.

TABLE MOUNTAIN

Table Mountain, which forms part of the Table Mountain National Park, is a prominent landmark overlooking the city of Cape Town and is also one of the official New Seven Wonders of Nature.

Kirstenbosch

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens is an important botanical garden nestled at the eastern foot of Table Mountain in Cape Town. The garden is one of ten National Botanical Gardens covering five of South Africa's six different biomes.

CAPE POINT

Cape Point is located within the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve at the southern tip of the Cape Peninsula and is home to 1036 species of flora and 250 species of birds.

BOULDER'S BEACH

Boulder's Beach near Simon's Town in False Bay is the only place in the world where you can get close to African Penguins - a colony of between 2000 to 3000 of them.

V&A Waterfront

The V&A Waterfront, located in the Table Bay Harbour, comprises of 123 ha of restaurants, stores, markets, breweries and attractions like the Two Oceans Aquarium. The Robben Island Ferry leaves from here for daily tours to Robben Island.

Robben Island

Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela served 18 of his 27 years in prison, is a World Heritage Site and museum.
